Sigebert, king d' Austrasie, had married Brunehaut, girl of the king of the Visigoths.

Chilpéric, king de Soissons, wanted to have also a princess for woman, and asked for the hand of Galswinthe, sister of Brunehaut.

The mother of Galswinthe opposed this marriage, so much it feared the brutality of the frank kings; but Chilpéric made the fair promisess.

Forced to resign itself, it accompanied her daughter from Tolède to the Pyrenees, and bade tearing farewell to him; she was not any more to re-examine it (567).

The marriage of Galswinthe was celebrated in Rouen with a rare magnificence, and Chilpéric initially appeared to testify to his wife a great love, but soon, when it had accepted all the treasures which she brought in dowry, it treated it outrageusement, and as she spoke to turn over to Spain near her mother, it made it strangle while she slept (568).

Little time after it married Frédégonde, woman of low condition, which it had obeyed by killing Galswinthe, and which was one day to make it assassinate itself.

The history of Frédégonde and Brunehaut is a long drama.

Frédégonde made successively kill son of her husband, then Sigebert, husband of Brunehaut, finally Chilpéric itself; she died all-powerful (597).

Delivered of its enemy, Brunehaut redoubled efforts to raise the royalty, but it was abandoned of all; remained only opposite large, it was delivered to the king Clotaire II, son of Frédégonde.

After three days of torture, it was attached to the tail of a horse and setting in scraps (613).
