The first riot of the Sling was caused by the imprisonment of Broussel, adviser at the Parliament, which had pointed out itself by its opposition to Mazarin: August 26, while one sang Te Deum with Notre-Dame, for the victory of Lens, Broussel was stopped in its family by guards: the people, which called it his guard, raised themselves at once: one did not manage to tear off it with the soldiers, but Paris roughcast barricades, and four hundred and thousand votes shouted: "Freedom or Broussel".

During the seat, the president of the Parliament, Mathieu Molé, wrongfully suspected of corresponding with Mazarin to deliver Paris to him, was insulted by the rabble.

Threatened of died by the exaggerated ones, he says to them with calms: "When you kill me, my friends, I will not need that six feet of ground" This answer liked to crowd and Molé was saved (Feb. 1649).

It had already run the same danger the following day of the arrest of Broussel, to have tried to bring closer the parties, and it had made proof of the same courage.

During the Sling of the lords (1650), the Parliament and the people, understanding that they did not have the same interests that the noble ones, refused to revolt with them; but, when the lords were overcome, the Parliament, anxious triumph of Mazarin, asked for its reference, and the people rose again.

The surprised court was captive in the Palais Royal; even one night, the multitude penetrated in its apartments, and until the room of the young deadened king, to be of course that it was not escaped (févr. 1651).

Louis XIV never forgave to the magistrates of the Parliament the part which they had played in the Sling.

He made burn the registers of their deliberations, and defended to them to discuss the businesses of the State.

One day that the Parliament had been assembled without its order, about an edict, Louis XIV entered the room with its large boots and its hunting clothes, a whip with the hand: "Messrs, says it, each one knows misfortunes which your assemblies", and it produced defended with the magistrates to be occupied of its edicts (1655).
